Did You
Know?
In 1972 the
Dallas Cowboys hired the NFL's first professional cheerleading
squad. The term "home run" was used in
the sport of cricket long before baseball was
invented. Originally carrots were
found in a variety of colors including purple, white, black,
yellow and red...orange carrots did not appear until later on
in the 1500's. On every continent
there is a city named
Rome. Eskimos use refrigerators
to keep food from
freezing.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles - A
Rush Delivery For Martha Stewart
It was literally
"Planes, Trains & Automobiles". We had a request
from our client Schawk Toronto to get a delivery down to
Martha Stewart on 20th St, New York, NY, USA before 5:00
pm. It was a delivery related to her line in Zellers,
which was a big client of theirs and if you know
anything about Martha Stewart it had to be done.
As it was late morning
we had to act quickly with not a lot of options so I
decided that I would take this delivery myself. I drove
from Toronto to Buffalo where I caught the next flight
into New York City. By the time I arrived in New
York and got through US customs, it was already rush
hour. Sitting in a cab stuck in traffic it was clear
that I would not be making my deadline unless something
changed. Discussing my circumstances with the cab driver
he suggested that the only alternative was to take the
subway.
With no other options I had to trust the
driver and after tipping him heavily, I got out and
boarded the subway according to his instructions. The
only problem was that from where we were the closest I
could get to 20th St was 9 blocks. So after a couple of
transfers I was finally downtown on Manhattan
Island.
It was already past 4:45 so I now had to
run 9 blocks with my lap top swinging from side to side
around my neck and package in hand. After zig zagging
through the crowd and hurdling a few homeless I finally
made it to my destination. Sweating buckets I handed the
package over to the receptionist a few minutes after
5:00 but Martha was still in the building and needless
to say our client was very happy.

Disher
Courier's Mission Critical Service
Disher Courier is a company that
understands fully that business is not a predictable
entity. The needs of almost every company, in every
industry, are a flexible and fluid thing and that means
that delivery needs can arise which are
unpredictable. In addition, those needs can be urgent,
and that is why we pride ourselves on Mission Critical
service.
Mission critical service means
solving problems. This is the way Disher approaches
their client's needs with this service. We want you to
let us know what you need, and we will do everything in
our power to do it. Our creative approach to
problem solving in the transportation industry makes
sure that your package can get there on
time. With mission critical service
it doesn't matter how big, or how small your delivery
is. It doesn't matter if it has to be shipped down the
street or to the other side of the planet. Cars, trucks,
airplanes, or even bicycles might be part of the
transportation equation. Borders might need to be
crossed, or warehouses opened in the middle of the
night. The important thing is that we are a company that
has developed both the means and the experience of
ensuring that any mission critical delivery can be made
for our clients. If you have a mission
critical delivery that you need made, no matter what the
obstacles, then contact Disher. Speak with one of our
experienced representatives who can immediately start
helping you find the solution to your emergency shipping
problem.

Broker/Employee
of the Month:
Cheryl Catharine
WoonSam-Alphonso (try to say that in one
breath) has been with Disher Courier since our
family took over the management of the business in 1986.
A proud mother of four (Tracy, Shandor, Arron and
Chelsea) Cheryl has dedicated her life to her kids. She
resides with husband Wayne in Orangeville and as a
hockey mom she has spent many a days in hockey arenas
all over Ontario and parts of the US.
As one of my 2 baby sisters
I've been watching out for Cheryl for a long time,
but for the past number of years it seems like there is
more of her watching out for me than me for her. When it
comes to her job, Cheryl is a perfectionist and is
completely dedicated when the job needs to get done. I'm
not sure if she gets more satisfaction out of noticing
my mistakes because of her pride in her work or because
of the fact it was my mistake; even if it is only
a few times a year.
With our great team
of CSR's our clients feel totally secure and
confident knowing that Cheryl is part of the team
handling their orders. She is overly meticulous and over
the years she has shown that with her on the job you are
guaranteed that it will be done right.
It's nice knowing that people
with Cheryl's qualities are looking after our clients,
but it's also nice knowing that she is always looking
for ways to improve our systems. She is very observant
and is innovative in her way of thinking. She asks a lot
of questions and then comes up with
solutions.
It
is these qualities and her business savvy thinking,
that makes Cheryl a great asset to our team and our
Employee of the Month. Congratulations and keep up the
great
work!

Winter
Fitness
It's inevitable. Winter is coming.
Having fun in the cold weather while staying healthy and
burning calories is easier than you might think.
If you're like most people, the thought of exercise
evokes negative feelings of frustration...especially
when it's cold outside. The secret is to make the
activities fun! Included are a handful of
activities that will allow you to burn calories and have
a blast while doing them. Go ahead. Get some
fresh air, enjoy the wonderful glistening snow and keep
fit without having to sacrifice enjoyment.
For instance...downhill skiing has been a
popular leisurely activity for decades. Why;
because it's fun. You're just along for the ride
created by Mother Nature's force of gravity,
right? Of course that's the concept, but downhill
skiing burns an average of 535 calories an hour.
Cross Country skiing bumps the calories burned per hour
up to 700 as it requires more physical work, though it's
just as enjoyable. Have fun with your kids
and build a snowman. That will shed 250 calories
an hour. Or go sledding for an hour and say
goodbye to 420 more calories. Walking up hill is
very effective! If you prefer to glide then stuff
your feet in some ice skates and drop 300 calories every
hour...or more depending on your intensity and
speed. Even the simple act of walking in the snow
will burn 270 calories over the course of sixty
minutes.

Finding a Great Toronto
Restaurant
Toronto is
a truly cosmopolitan city. The great combination of all
the different ethnicities and cultures on Canadian soil
has created a destination that offers you one of the
best dining experiences in North America.
If you happen to be in Toronto and are
looking for something great to eat, one of the best
things that you can do is check out the reviews of
restaurants. There are simply too many places to eat in
a city that size for you, or anyone you talk to, to have
knowledge of all of them. However, by using one of the
websites that specialize in reviewing area restaurants,
you can quickly find one that has been rated well. You
might even be able to link directly to the restaurant's
site to get a glimpse of the menu. The
great thing about using a good site to search for a
restaurant is that you can get the feedback of the
casual diner as well as that of the food reviewer. In
addition, you can usually narrow down your search by
location, the type of food that you're interested in,
and by cost; allowing you to easily find a restaurant
that suits your taste, and your budget.
There are all kinds of great restaurants
in Toronto to meet every kind of culinary desire. There
are great family restaurants, great chain
establishments, one of a kind gourmet eateries, and tiny
corner cafes. There are parts of town which are
particularly known for their fine dining, such as Little
Italy, Chinatown, and the Danforth. All of these areas
are worth taking some time to explore if you're
interested in finding the best restaurants in town.
